Ashgabat Hosts Key “One Health in Central Asia” Meeting to Boost Food Security and Pandemic Preparedness

Ashgabat has hosted a pivotal meeting between Pierre Gerber, Senior Agricultural Economist at the World Bank and officials from Turkmenistan’s State Veterinary Service under the “One Health in Central Asia” initiative, aimed at strengthening food systems and preventing future pandemics.

The discussions centered on enhancing the capacity of the national veterinary service, improving epidemiological surveillance, and adopting international best practices for controlling infectious and zoonotic diseases, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.

Arslan Soltanmyradov, Head of the Department of International and Scientific Relations, emphasized Turkmenistan’s commitment to a robust veterinary system as a critical element of food security. The planned initiatives aim to bolster the resilience of agri-food systems and streamline interagency cooperation.

The “One Health in Central Asia” project serves as a strategic platform for regional and global collaboration, promoting a comprehensive approach to safeguarding human and animal health, in line with Turkmenistan’s national policy priorities.
