The Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee has announced that Azerbaijan’s imports of natural gas from Turkmenistan dropped significantly in the first four months of 2025, both in volume and value.
From January to April, Azerbaijan imported 155.3 million cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas, down from 281 million cubic meters during the same period in 2024. This represents a 1.8-fold decrease, or a drop of 125.7 million cubic meters, The Caspian Post reports, citing local media.
The total value of the imports also declined by 1.8 times, falling from $42.1 million to $23.3 million year-on-year.
Despite the reduction in Turkmen gas imports, Azerbaijan’s total natural gas imports for the reporting period reached 176.5 million cubic meters, worth $27.2 million. This suggests that Turkmenistan remains a key, though diminished, supplier-alongside Russia.
On the export side, Azerbaijan maintained its strong position in the regional energy market, shipping out 8.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas valued at $3.1 billion during the same four-month period.
Key export destinations included Georgia, Serbia, Türkiye, Bulgaria, Italy, and Greece, highlighting Azerbaijan’s growing role as a strategic energy supplier in both Southeast Europe and the Caucasus.
