New Chinese Ambassador Arrives in Turkmenistan’s Ashgabat to Begin Mission

Newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Turkmenistan Ji Shumin has arrived in Ashgabat with his spouse to officially begin his diplomatic mission.

At Ashgabat International Airport, Ambassador Ji was warmly welcomed by representatives of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry and senior officials from the Chinese Embassy in Turkmenistan, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkmen media.

Expressing his honor at his appointment, Ambassador Ji emphasized that under the strategic guidance of the highest leadership of both countries, the China-Turkmenistan comprehensive strategic partnership remains strong, with cooperation across various sectors continuing to deepen.

As ambassador, Ji Shumin pledged to work closely with all sectors of the Turkmen side to implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state, deepen practical cooperation, promote humanitarian exchanges, and jointly build a closer China-Turkmen community with a shared future.

Turkmen officials warmly received Ambassador Ji, underscoring the country’s commitment to its partnership with China and pledging full support to the ambassador in advancing bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations.

Born in May 1972, Ji Shumin previously served as Deputy Director of the Department of European-Central Asian Affairs at China’s Foreign Ministry and was China’s Ambassador to Tajikistan before his current appointment.
