The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan has successfully conducted an online training program for national obstetricians and gynecologists, aimed at enhancing the country’s healthcare capacity and aligning medical practices with international standards.
The training was part of the UNFPA Country Programme 2021-2025 and focused on updating and implementing clinical protocols in obstetrics and gynecology, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.
The sessions were led by Dr. Stelian Hodorogea, UNFPA international consultant and Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Moldova.
Over three days, Turkmen doctors explored evidence-based approaches to pregnancy and childbirth management. Topics included:
Confirming gestational age and diagnosing pathological pregnancies
Managing recurrent miscarriages and assessing progesterone effectiveness
Addressing postpartum hemorrhage and infusion-transfusion therapy
Screening and prevention of restricted fetal growth
Prior to the main training, preliminary meetings were held in September with national specialists to discuss current challenges and coordinate updates to clinical protocols.
This initiative is part of UNFPA’s collaboration with the Government of Turkmenistan to strengthen the healthcare system, improve maternal and newborn care, and reduce maternal and infant mortality rates across the country.
