Turkmenistan has delivered humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after a series of devastating earthquakes in the Hindu Kush mountains, following the instructions of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The relief shipment, provided by the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship, includes medicines, food products, textiles, and other essential goods, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.
On August 31, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck about 27 kilometers southwest of Asadabad in eastern Afghanistan. The quake leveled villages, triggered landslides that cut off access to remote settlements, and damaged communication lines. Rescue operations have faced significant challenges due to the rugged terrain, with airborne special units deployed to reach affected areas.
According to official figures, more than 2,200 people have been killed and around 3,600 injured. Just days later, on September 2, another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 struck the same region, further complicating rescue and relief efforts.
