Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Beijing’s House of the People’s Assemblies, reaffirming the strong strategic partnership between the two countries and emphasizing their shared commitment to peace, stability, and security in Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.
At the opening of the talks, President Xi thanked Berdimuhamedov for visiting China, praised Turkmenistan’s successful hosting of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries at the Avaza National Tourist Zone, and sent greetings to Turkmen National Leader, Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council) Chairman Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.
President Berdimuhamedov, in turn, congratulated Xi Jinping on the successful Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. He stressed that meetings between the two leaders provide vital opportunities to advance bilateral cooperation and address key international issues.
President Berdimuhamedov thanked China for supporting Turkmenistan’s neutrality and noted Beijing’s role in the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the historic “Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan” resolution. Xi Jinping congratulated Turkmenistan on the 30th anniversary of its neutrality and praised its peace-oriented policies.
The Turkmen side also expressed support for China’s Global Governance Initiative presented at the SCO Summit, noting that its principles align with Turkmenistan’s stance on international relations.
Economic cooperation was a key focus, particularly in the gas sector. President Berdimuhamedov announced that China had won the international tender for developing the fourth phase of the Galkynysh gas field, congratulating Xi Jinping on the achievement.
The leaders also discussed transport and logistics collaboration, emphasizing that Turkmenistan’s “Reviving the Great Silk Road” strategy and China’s “Belt and Road” initiative complement each other and aim to create a unified geo-economic space across Eurasia.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation was highlighted as a crucial component of bilateral relations. President Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for opportunities for Turkmen students to study in China and emphasized plans to expand educational and cultural exchanges. The discussions also covered scientific collaboration, high-tech joint projects, and partnerships in parliamentary, civil society, women’s and youth diplomacy.
President Berdimuhamedov invited Xi Jinping to attend an international forum in Ashgabat on December 12, marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.
The meeting concluded with the signing of several joint agreements covering cooperation in intellectual property, media, education, and other areas, further solidifying the comprehensive partnership between Turkmenistan and China.
