Tajik, Chinese Leaders Discuss Security, Economy, and Global Governance

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, focusing on a wide range of issues in bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including collaboration within international and regional organizations.

President Rahmon commended Xi Jinping’s role in strengthening the strategic partnership between Tajikistan and China, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

He noted that despite current geopolitical complexities, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) remains an important platform for promoting security, stability, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Tajik leader also voiced support for Xi’s Global Governance Initiative, emphasizing its alignment with Tajikistan’s efforts to advance the rule of law, peace, security, and sustainable development, while highlighting its potential to achieve shared objectives.

Both leaders welcomed progress in the “Central Asia-China” format and underscored the importance of expanding cooperation in the economy, digitalization, transport, and logistics, as well as tapping transit opportunities and attracting Chinese investment and technology into Tajikistan.

Key areas identified for future collaboration included the development of data centers, boosting cybersecurity, the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, and joint projects in hydropower, a sector seen as a top priority.

The talks also stressed the value of strengthening interregional ties and deepening exchanges in culture, education, science, technology, and tourism.

Rahmon and Xi reaffirmed that Tajikistan and China hold similar positions on security issues and remain committed to addressing modern challenges and threats together.
