Tajik President Emomali Rahmon joined world leaders in Beijing on September 3 for a grand military parade at Tiananmen Square, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and celebrating the victory over Japanese militarism.
Among the distinguished guests were also Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
President Xi personally welcomed the visiting leaders on the red carpet, followed by a commemorative photo session, before they took their seats on the tribune alongside war heroes and veterans.
The parade showcased ground, naval, and air units of the People’s Liberation Army, along with a wide range of modern military hardware, making it the largest parade in China’s history.
In preparation, Beijing implemented extensive security measures: airport-style scanners were installed at office entrances, drone flights were banned, and uniformed security personnel patrolled bridges and overpasses around the clock.
The event, the first such parade in six years, involved months of planning, with over 200,000 flags erected across the city, intersections and main roads adorned with floral displays, and the business district enhanced with new lighting installations.
The procession proceeded from Tiananmen Square along Chang’an Avenue. To maintain secrecy during rehearsals, residents were barred from using their balconies, and all schools, offices, hotels, and shops along the route were closed for two days, with city bike rentals largely unavailable.
