Turkmenistan Joins First Global Urban Tourism Summit in South Korea's Busan

Turkmenistan has made a strong international appearance as its delegation participated in the First Global Urban Tourism Summit.

South Korea's Busan city hosted the First Global Urban Tourism Summit, bringing together over 1,200 delegates from 22 cities across 13 countries, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.

Turkmenistan was represented by Yazgeldy Bekmyradov, Deputy Mayor of Ashgabat, who led the country’s official delegation. Participants discussed new opportunities for tourism cooperation, intercity connections, and expanding international contacts.

The summit featured representatives from the Busan City Hall, as well as Korean and international tourism organizations. The program included a mayoral roundtable, city presentations, and thematic sessions focusing on sustainable development, digital innovation, and cultural exchange.

Bekmyradov’s visit comes amid strengthening Turkmenistan-Korea relations, supported by the new direct flight route between Ashgabat International Airport and Incheon International Airport, inaugurated on July 14, 2025. The connection is expected to boost tourism, business, and cultural collaboration between the two countries.
