Turkmenistan is set to host the next meeting of the CIS Rail Transport Council in 2026, as member states confirmed Ashgabat as the venue for the 84th session during this year’s gathering in Baku, Azerbaijan.
A Turkmen delegation joined railway officials from more than ten countries in Baku for the 83rd CIS Rail Transport Council meeting to discuss the future of transport connectivity across the region, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.
The agenda focused on key issues such as tariff policy for international freight services for the 2026 fiscal year, the formation plan for cargo trains, and the status of mutual settlements between member states. All 11 items discussed were unanimously approved.
One of the key outcomes for Turkmenistan was the confirmation of the next meeting’s host city: the 84th session of the Council will take place in Ashgabat. The Turkmen side invited participants to the white-marble capital in May 2026, expressing confidence that the upcoming meeting will further strengthen coordination within the region’s transport system.
As Turkmenistan continues expanding its transit potential and integrating into global transport corridors, officials emphasized that open dialogue and coordinated action are essential for achieving practical and mutually beneficial results. The leadership of Turkmen Railways reaffirmed its readiness to ensure all necessary conditions for productive work during the Ashgabat session.
The CIS Rail Transport Council-one of the region’s most influential sectoral platforms-once again demonstrated its effectiveness in addressing emerging challenges and supporting deeper cooperation in the transport sphere.
