Kazakh, Turkmen Museums Start New Partnership

Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are moving into the active phase of a new long-term cooperation program between their national museums, marking a major step toward deepening cultural and historical ties.

The initiative follows a Memorandum of Cooperation signed during Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s recent state visit to Kazakhstan, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.

The agreement, finalized on November 25 between the National Museum of Kazakhstan, led by director and scholar Berik Abdygaliuyl, and the State Museum of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan, represented by Deputy Chair of the Cabinet of Ministers Bayramgul Orazdurdyyeva , lays the groundwork for systematic, institutional collaboration.

The partnership focuses on several key areas:

Joint research and cultural projects

Academic exchange, including conferences and seminars on Central Asian history and archaeology

Professional training, with internships and experience-sharing between museum specialists

Co-organized exhibitions highlighting shared cultural and historical heritage

Ashgabat and Astana emphasize that the program reflects their shared goal of strengthening the study and promotion of Central Asia’s cultural legacy. Cooperation between the region’s leading museum institutions will help expand access to unique collections, deepen scholarly exchange, and enhance cultural diplomacy between the two countries.

Turkmenistan has already confirmed readiness to begin implementing the planned activities and has invited Abdigaliuly to Turkmenistan for further discussions on new heritage-preservation initiatives.
