Turkmenistan, UN Strengthen Partnership for Children’s Rights and Gender Equality

During a high-level meeting at the Turkmenistan Women’s Union, Vice President for Medical Activities of the Charity Fund for Providing Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Oguljahan Atabayeva and UN Resident Coordinator Dmitry Shlapachenko have discussed the Fund’s humanitarian initiatives and preparations for a landmark international forum on the role of women in society.

Shlapachenko praised the Fund’s initiatives in safeguarding children’s health and well-being, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.

Atabaeva highlighted the organization’s focus on children’s health, education, social support, and development, emphasizing collaboration with UN agencies.

The Fund maintains close cooperation with UNICEF in Turkmenistan, marked by a formal agreement signed during an international conference celebrating the Fund’s fourth anniversary in March 2025.

The upcoming International Conference, titled “The Role of Women in Modern Society: Promoting International Cooperation for Sustainable Development”, is scheduled for December in the National Tourist Zone Avaza. Shlapachenko noted the event’s added significance, coinciding with Turkmenistan’s 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the UN. He emphasized that Avaza has become a hub for international forums, reflecting global recognition of Turkmenistan’s initiatives for peace and prosperity.

The meeting also highlighted the key roles of women leaders across Turkmen society in advancing gender equality. Turkmenistan has pioneered the Central Asian Women’s Dialogue, a platform aimed at strengthening women’s contributions to sustainable development, peace, and regional security. This initiative was launched by National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with support from the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia and the UN Development Program.

Shlapachenko confirmed that the UN values and supports Turkmenistan’s efforts to ensure gender equality, including access to quality healthcare and education for women.
