A major joint energy project between the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Uzbekneftegaz is advancing in Uzbekistan’s Ustyurt region, with large-scale seismic exploration now underway in Karakalpakstan.
SOCAR Vice President Arzu Javadova said the project reflects the growing strategic energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, The Caspian Post reports via Sputnik Uzbekistan.
Javadova said that the companies are currently carrying out one of the largest seismic data collection campaigns ever conducted in Uzbekistan. Extensive field operations and seismic surveys are ongoing across Karakalpakstan as part of efforts to explore hydrocarbon reserves in the region.
She noted that the project has moved beyond traditional cable-based seismic systems and is now using advanced 3D seismic technology, allowing specialists to speed up field operations while improving the quality and density of geological data.
