Uzbekistan recorded a sharp increase in electric vehicle imports during the first four months of 2026, with the number of EVs brought into the country rising nearly fourfold compared to the same period last year.
According to data released by the Customs Committee, Uzbekistan imported 23,079 electric vehicles between January and April, with the total value of imports reaching $309.3 million, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kun.uz.
The average price of each imported EV stood at around $13,400.
The figures mark a major jump from the corresponding period in 2025, when the country imported 5,863 electric vehicles worth $88.5 million. The latest numbers show that EV imports have expanded almost four times within a year.
The surge comes after a significant slowdown seen at the start of 2025. During the first four months of 2024, Uzbekistan imported more than 17,000 electric vehicles, which was three times higher than the level recorded during the same period in 2025. The 2026 figures therefore reflect not only a recovery from last year’s decline but also a record level of demand for environmentally friendly transportation.
At the same time, the country’s domestic automotive sector is continuing to grow. In 2025, Uzbekistan manufactured 257,800 passenger cars, an increase of 36,700 units compared to production levels in 2024.
The expansion aligns with the government’s broader industrial plans under the “Uzbekistan 2030” strategy, which sets ambitious goals for the national automotive industry. Authorities are targeting annual production capacity of 1 million vehicles within the next five years.
Under the roadmap, the country aims to produce 550,000 vehicles in 2027, increase output to 700,000 units in 2028, and reach 800,000 vehicles by 2029 before achieving the 1 million-unit target by the end of the decade.
