The provincial government of Shaanxi, China, has awarded an educational grant worth 13 million yuan (approximately $1.8 million) to support the education of Uzbek students at Chang’an University, one of China’s leading technical institutions.
The initiative was formalized during a visit to Tashkent on June 3, 2025, by a high-level Shaanxi delegation led by Governor Zhao Gang, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The visit coincided with the inauguration of the Uzbek-Chinese Faculty of Transport at Tashkent State Transport University, a symbolic step forward in academic cooperation between the two nations. The delegation also included senior representatives from Chang’an University, who held discussions with local education officials to lay the groundwork for concrete collaborative programs.
According to the grant agreement, a total of 110 students from Uzbekistan will benefit from this program: 60 undergraduates, 40 master’s students, and 10 PhD candidates. The educational structure will follow integrated models - “2+2” for undergraduate programs and “1+1” for master’s studies - allowing students to begin their studies in Uzbekistan and complete them at Chang’an University in China.
Officials from both sides have emphasized that this project reflects the deepening partnership in the field of higher education and human capital development. By providing access to internationally recognized programs, state-of-the-art facilities, and cross-cultural academic exchange, the initiative is expected to strengthen not only bilateral ties but also the professional development of Uzbekistan’s future engineers and researchers.
The grant represents a major milestone in Uzbekistan-China educational cooperation, offering students from Central Asia the opportunity to gain globally competitive skills and qualifications.
