An Uzbek-born man known in criminal circles as “Jora Tashkentsky” has been arrested in Egypt after being wanted internationally.

Georgy Sorokin, a native of Uzbekistan, was detained by Egyptian authorities, The Caspian Post reports via iiv.uz.

Sorokin is a Russian citizen who had been living in Dubai in recent years. Police officers also reportedly found a forged Russian passport in his possession, which investigators believe he used to travel to different countries.

Uzbek law enforcement officers accuse Sorokin and his accomplices of taking possession of two residential properties worth around $350,000 through extortion in Tashkent in 2021.

Investigators allege that the property owner and members of his family were threatened and beaten before the homes were transferred to members of the criminal group.

A criminal case was subsequently opened against Sorokin in connection with the incident, and he was placed on an international wanted list.
