Fake Courier Scheme Nets $50,000 in Uzbekistan

A bold theft scheme has been uncovered in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where criminals posed as delivery workers to pull off a $50,000 heist.

Police in Uzbekistan say three suspects have been detained over the robbery in the Yunusabad district. The group used a courier uniform to gain access to an office building without raising suspicion, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

The plan was orchestrated by a 38-year-old man, while his 26-year-old accomplice played a key role - dressing as a delivery worker to enter the premises and reach a basement area where a safe was located.

Investigators revealed the operation relied on insider assistance. A company driver reportedly provided the group with official courier clothing and a delivery bag, receiving $4,000 for his role in the crime.️

Law enforcement officers identified all members of the group through rapid measures. A criminal case has been launched under Article 169 (“Theft”) of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code.

Authorities are now checking whether the suspects may be linked to similar crimes.
