Man in Uzbekistan Creates Fake Photos, Demands Money from Victim

A serious cybercrime case has emerged in Uzbekistan, where a young man has been detained for creating fake explicit images of a woman and attempting to extort money from her.

The suspect, a previously convicted 19-year-old resident of Fergana Region, was arrested after investigators uncovered a digital blackmail scheme involving manipulated photos and threats, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

The suspect purchased a SIM card and created a Telegram account, used previously linked personal data and photos from the number’s earlier owner, generated fake compromising images of an unfamiliar woman using this information.

He then began threatening to distribute the materials online and sent fabricated images to the victim’s relatives via messaging apps.

Investigators say the suspect demanded money in exchange for not publishing the materials and managed to receive more than 800,000 Uzbek sums through bank transfers.

The suspect was detained in Andijan Region. Authorities have opened a criminal case under extortion charges.

He is currently held in custody and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
