The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has signed a strategic agreement with UAE-based Global South Utilities (GSU) to support the company’s entry into the Uzbek market.
Under the new deal, ADFD will facilitate GSU’s acquisition of a 51 per cent stake in Uzbekistan’s Yashil Energiya, a move that marks a key milestone in GSU’s efforts to expand into high-potential international markets. The partnership aligns with the UAE’s broader vision of promoting global economic diversification and sustainable development, The Caspian Post informs via Uzbek media.
The agreement was formalized in a signing ceremony attended by senior officials from both organizations, with Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, and Ali Alshimmari, Managing Director and CEO of GSU, signing the documents.
Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi highlighted that the agreement demonstrates ADFD’s ongoing commitment to supporting UAE companies in major international projects. He emphasized that the initiative complements the Fund’s strategic goals to grow the UAE private sector’s global footprint and advance sustainable solutions in key regions around the world.
Ali Alshimmari noted that the partnership with ADFD opens significant opportunities for GSU in Uzbekistan, enabling the company to implement projects that will positively impact the local economy while supporting global sustainability efforts. He reiterated GSU’s dedication to innovation and sustainable long-term growth.
This collaboration represents a significant step in ADFD’s mission to encourage international investments by UAE private sector entities. It exemplifies effective public-private cooperation aimed at strengthening national economies, promoting sustainable development, and fostering global stability.
Additionally, to support Uzbekistan’s renewable energy ambitions, GSU has committed to investing $27 million in Yashil Energiya. The company will also work on accelerating small-scale renewable energy projects and introducing innovative approaches in the region.
