The Uzbek Justice Ministry has officially registered Zomin Qozon Patiri, a traditional bread from the Jizzakh region, as a geographical indication, granting it formal recognition and legal protection under national law.
Geographical indications serve as official markers of a product’s origin, certifying that it comes from a specific region and possesses qualities, recipes, and characteristics unique to that location, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
This designation not only acknowledges the cultural and culinary heritage tied to the product but also ensures its name and reputation are safeguarded against misuse.
Zomin Qozon Patiri is a well-known regional delicacy traditionally prepared in the Zomin district of the Jizzakh region. Baked in a cauldron using a distinctive dough made with locally sourced milk and butter, the bread is prized for its rich flavor, unique texture, and time-honored preparation method that has been passed down through generations.
By being entered into Uzbekistan’s State Register of Geographical Indications, Zomin Qozon Patiri has become the 20th product in the country to receive such official status.
