The International Kurash Tournament for the Prize of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has officially commenced in Paris, France, bringing together top athletes from around the world.
A press conference held on the eve of the tournament highlighted the event’s 30,000 euro-prize fund, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The conference was attended by representatives from the International Kurash Association, the European Kurash Confederation, the national kurash federations of France and Uzbekistan, as well as judges and officials.
Speaking at the event, Uygun Umarov, Deputy Chairman of the Uzbekistan Kurash Federation, noted that Paris-renowned as a global cultural and artistic center-has become a traditional and symbolic venue for this tournament. He emphasized that the event is instrumental in increasing the international profile and popularity of kurash, the traditional Uzbek wrestling sport.
The tournament features around 100 elite athletes from over 20 countries, competing in men’s weight categories of -90 kg and +90 kg, and women’s categories of -70 kg and +70 kg.
In addition to the competition, a vibrant cultural program will be held, showcasing Uzbek art, handicrafts, and national cuisine, further promoting Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage.
