Uzbek wrestler Aytjan Khalmakhanov has delivered a historic performance at the World Wrestling Championships, securing Uzbekistan’s first gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in 24 years.
Competing in the 63 kg weight category, Khalmakhanov defeated Chung Han-je of South Korea in the final, marking a major milestone for Uzbekistan’s wrestling team on the international stage, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The Uzbek national team wrapped up the championship with a total of five medals - one gold, one silver, and three bronze - underscoring the country’s rising presence in both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling.
