Uzbekistan and Italy Sign Two Key Agreements in Agricultural Sector

In recent years, trade between Uzbekistan and Italy has nearly tripled, largely driven by the diversification of exported and imported goods.

The number of joint ventures and projects has also doubled. Cooperation has begun with leading Italian companies in metallurgy, electrical engineering, agriculture, livestock, tourism, and other sectors, The Caspian Post reports citing UzA.

On May 29, at the Samarkand Congress Center, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Giorgia Meloni, held bilateral talks both in a tête-à-tête format and with the participation of official delegations.

We present the opinions of several officials from both countries following these events.

Luca Brondelli di Brondello, Vice President of the Confederation of Agriculture of the Italian Republic:

- We are very pleased to visit your country and Samarkand. We have signed several vital documents in agriculture. This will allow us to share modern approaches and recent developments in the sector. We intend to establish a training center in your country. We are also inviting young specialists to come to Italy to exchange experience. The visit of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Uzbekistan was highly productive. Our agreements will contribute to the further strengthening of friendly relations.

Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan:

- We have strong ties with Italy in agriculture. The main growth in this sector has occurred over the past five to six years. The tête-à-tête talks and negotiations with official delegations between the two countries’ leaders also carry historic significance. Following the negotiations, two essential documents were signed in the agricultural sector. One relates to a new direction: we agreed to create conditions for workers from dehkan farms in Uzbekistan to travel to Italy for employment and to study its experience and technologies. The second agreement concerns opening an agricultural branch of the prestigious University of Tuscia in Uzbekistan. Overall, we have close cooperation in education. Following this meeting, our collaboration in this area will expand even further.

Notably, both sides expressed their commitment to continuing active political dialogue. To promote new projects, it was decided to resume the work of the Intergovernmental Group and to hold its next meeting in conjunction with a business forum.
