Uzbekistan is reportedly testing a Chinese-made VN22 armored vehicle at its Military-Technical Institute, signaling the start of technical trials and expert evaluations for the country’s defense sector.
The VN22, a 6×6 wheeled modular armored platform developed by China’s Norinco, is designed for multiple roles-from troop transport and patrol missions to providing fire support in combat operations, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Its layout features a front-mounted engine and rear ramp, allowing safe troop deployment, a standard design choice for modern combat vehicles to enhance crew and personnel protection.
The vehicle emphasizes survivability with add-on armor providing all-around protection against 14.5mm armor-piercing rounds. A V-shaped hull helps disperse blast energy from mines or improvised explosive devices, increasing the chances of crew survival in asymmetric threat environments.
The appearance of the VN22 in Uzbekistan aligns with the country’s ongoing efforts to modernize its armed forces and expand its military capabilities, including cooperation with foreign defense manufacturers.
