Uzbekistan is setting its sights on the US biggest retail giants. During a recent high-level visit to the US, officials from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade held talks aimed at expanding bilateral trade and unlocking new export channels - including entry into major platforms like Amazon and Walmart.

The delegation took part in a series of international exhibitions in New York, presenting 25 Uzbek textile manufacturers under the national brand “Made in Uzbekistan”, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The companies participated in major trade events including Texworld NYC, Apparel Sourcing USA, and Home Textiles Sourcing Expo.

During the exhibitions, representatives from Uzbekistan held productive negotiations with prominent global retailers and brands such as Levi Strauss & Co., PVH Corp., American Eagle Outfitters, Macy’s, Bunzl plc, and Tapestry Inc.. Meetings were also conducted with leading industry groups AAFA and USFIA, focusing on sourcing arrangements and access to the U.S. market.

In Washington, the delegation met with the US Department of Commerce, where both sides discussed increasing bilateral trade, easing market access, and boosting investment cooperation. Key sectors under review included textiles, construction materials, electrical goods, and agricultural products. Discussions also explored opportunities for Uzbek exporters to access major online platforms like Amazon and Walmart, along with retail networks such as Whole Foods Market, Bloomingdale’s, and The Home Depot.

Further, an agreement with the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) was reached to conduct joint training sessions for Uzbek businesses on meeting US certification and packaging standards.

A separate dialogue with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Cotton Council International (CCI) focused on the GSM-102 program and potential cooperation under a “Made from US Cotton” initiative to support Uzbek textile exports.

The ministry reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s strategic commitment to boosting non-resource exports, diversifying international trade, and strengthening the presence of Uzbek-made products in global markets.
