Uzbekistan Charts Innovation-Led Path for CIS Regional Development

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has outlined a comprehensive set of proposals aimed at bolstering multilateral cooperation and enhancing the economic resilience of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member nations.

The initiatives were presented at the CIS Heads of State Council meeting held in Dushanbe, The Caspian Post informs via the Uzbek presidential press service.

In his address, President Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of modernizing regional partnerships, particularly in the fields of innovation, transport, logistics, energy, and youth engagement. His forward-looking agenda is intended to adapt the CIS framework to current global challenges and opportunities.

Among the key proposals were:

Establishing integrated information and logistics hubs that link all modes of transportation across the CIS, aimed at streamlining trade and cross-border connectivity;

Hosting a CIS Transport Cooperation Conference in Uzbekistan, to address sector-specific issues and promote collaborative infrastructure projects;

Developing a “roadmap” for the growth of special economic zones, and launching a CIS venture platform to support startups and innovation ecosystems;

Organizing an Innovation and Industrial Forum in Tashkent during the INNOPROM exhibition to spotlight industrial modernization across the region;

Creating a joint program for the innovative development of the CIS energy sector, encompassing traditional and renewable energy cooperation;

Drafting a multilateral action plan to implement these initiatives through coordinated efforts;

Preparing a new interstate agreement on mutual recognition of diplomas, to facilitate the academic and professional mobility of CIS citizens;

Hosting a CIS Youth Forum in Khiva, alongside the creation of a Youth Innovation Laboratory to encourage youth participation in science and technology;

Enhancing intergovernmental coordination among foreign ministries and security services to respond more effectively to regional challenges.

President Mirziyoyev's proposals signal Uzbekistan’s proactive leadership in shaping a modernized and innovation-driven agenda for the CIS. The initiatives aim to foster deeper regional integration, support sustainable development, and strengthen partnerships within and beyond the CIS framework.
