Uzbekistan, China Expand Agricultural Cooperation

Uzbekistan and China have agreed to establish a new international scientific center focused on plant breeding, aiming to deepen bilateral cooperation in agricultural science and innovation.

The Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with representatives from China’s Henan Association for Metrology, Certification, Inspection, and Testing, where both sides discussed expanding collaboration and creating a joint research hub in plant selection, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The initiative builds on prior meetings and field visits at the Institute of Genetics and Experimental Plant Biology under the Academy of Sciences. Uzbek and Chinese scientists reviewed research priorities, current capacities, and cooperation mechanisms, resulting in a detailed plan to launch the Uzbekistan-China Innovative International Center for Plant Breeding.

The center will conduct research in plant selection, demonstrate modern agricultural technologies, monitor product quality, and implement scientific developments in practice. The project is expected to operate as a joint venture.

According to the Academy of Sciences, the new center will combine the scientific potential of both countries to advance plant breeding, modern agricultural technologies, and quality control systems. It aims to bridge research and practice, promote advanced innovations, and support sustainable development in Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector.

Earlier reports indicated plans to establish a Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia in Tashkent, reflecting a broader effort to strengthen scientific cooperation between Uzbekistan and China in environmental and agricultural fields.
