Uzbekistan Forms Diplomatic Ties with Eritrea

A Joint Communiqué establishing diplomatic relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State of Eritrea was signed in New York.

The document was signed by Ulugbek Lapasov, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations, and Sophia Tesfamariam, Permanent Representative of Eritrea to the UN, The Caspian Post reports citing Uzbek media.

The sides affirmed their mutual interest in developing cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

An agreement was reached to intensify bilateral contacts to explore prospects for cooperation in the political, trade-economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.

The signing of the Joint Communiqué marked an essential step toward strengthening Uzbekistan’s ties with the African continent. Eritrea became the 162nd country with which the Republic of Uzbekistan has established diplomatic relations.
