A delegation from Uzbekistan, headed by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Akhadbek Haydarov, has visited Georgia to deepen bilateral cooperation in tax, budget, and customs administration.
Over the course of the three-day visit, the delegation held a series of high-level meetings focused on enhancing collaboration in fiscal policy, customs regulation, and public sector modernization, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
Key talks were held with Deputy Ministers of Finance of Georgia, Mamuka Baratashvili and Ekaterine Guntsadze, and with Paatа Kiladze, First Deputy Head of the Revenue Service.
Discussions centered on Georgia’s successful reforms in tax and customs administration, including the development and implementation of medium- and long-term strategies, their outcomes, and lessons learned. The Uzbek delegation closely examined Georgia’s experience in:
Assessing the efficacy of tax and customs incentives
Introducing digital technologies in fiscal management
Modernizing the VAT system
Implementing risk-based approaches in tax control and auditing
Operating a single treasury account for managing public financial flows
Both sides compared these strategies with Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms, creating a platform for mutual learning and collaboration.
The delegation also focused on customs modernization, meeting with Georgian officials to explore innovations in digital customs systems, border control, vehicle clearance, and risk management mechanisms. Field visits to the Sadakhlo border checkpoint and Tbilisi customs clearance zone provided firsthand insight into Georgia’s operational model.
The visit concluded with a mutual commitment to expand institutional partnerships between the Georgian Ministry of Finance and Uzbekistan’s relevant agencies. Areas of future cooperation will include:
Joint development of fiscal and budgetary policies
Macroeconomic planning
Improved public services for businesses
