Construction has begun on the Charvak Wind Power Plant, a 20 MW renewable energy project located in Boʻstonliq district of Tashkent region, Uzbekistan.
The foundation ceremony took place on July 30, attended by officials from China, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy, Uzbekhydroenergo company, local authorities, and the public, The Caspian Post reports per Uzbek media.
Supported by China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Department of Commerce, the project aims to generate approximately 50 million kWh annually, supplying clean electricity to around 20,000 households. The Chinese firm TBEA Co., Ltd. will serve as the general contractor.
China has provided $28 million in grant assistance, with completion expected in 2026. The wind farm will help Uzbekistan save roughly 811,100 cubic meters of natural gas or 3,150 tons of coal each year, supporting environmental goals and economic efficiency.
This initiative builds on Uzbekhydroenergo’s 2017 launch of the country’s first 750 kW pilot wind installation and represents a continued push toward expanding Uzbekistan’s renewable energy capacity.
