Uzbekistan has officially joined the Council of the Asian Alliance for Cultural Heritage and received a $140,000 grant to carry out archaeological excavations at Chinortepa in the Surkhandarya region.
The announcement came during the II General Assembly and III Council Meeting of the Alliance, held in Chongqing, China, with representatives from 33 countries and international organizations attending, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Bahodir Abdikarimov, Director of Uzbekistan’s Cultural Heritage Agency, represented the country and highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage amid urbanization, technological advances, and environmental risks, calling it a duty to future generations.
Abdikarimov also noted that Uzbekistan’s participation will allow the country to share its rich historical heritage and strengthen common values across Asian civilizations. The grant will support in-depth research at Chinortepa, uncover new findings, and expand international archaeological collaboration.
Founded in 2021 in Xi’an, the Asian Alliance for Cultural Heritage now unites 24 countries and serves as a platform for scientific exchange and international cooperation, extending beyond Asia to Africa, Europe, Latin America, and Oceania. Membership in the Alliance enables Uzbekistan to play a more active role in regional heritage strategies and boosts its international reputation in preservation, restoration, and archaeology.
