Uzbekistan Returns Billions to Citizens Defrauded in Housing Deals

Uzbekistan’s Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee has reimbursed 22 billion soums ($1.796 billion) to citizens affected by apartment purchase scams.

In 2025, the committee received over 1,700 complaints, mostly related to poor construction quality, utilities and networks, and delays in handing over apartments, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Other violations included contract flaws such as missing delivery dates and recalculation mechanisms, as well as cases of illegal advertising.
