The signing ceremony of two strategic agreements between Uzbekistan and Russia took place during the World Atomic Week in Moscow.
Director of the Atomic Energy Agency (Uzatom), Azim Akhmedkhodjayev, noted that one of the agreements is an additional document to the agreement signed on June 20, 2025, between Rosatom Energy Projects JSC and the NPP Construction Directorate. It concerns the primary conditions for implementing the project to construct an integrated nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, The Caspian Post reports citing Uzbek media.
The project involves the construction of an integrated nuclear power plant, comprising both low-power and large-scale power units, including two VVER-1000 Generation 3+ reactors and two RITM-200H reactors.
The second document is an agreement between Rosatom Energy Projects JSC and the Directorate for the Construction of Nuclear Power Plants regarding the basic terms of contracts for the supply of nuclear fuel for low-power and large nuclear power plants planned to be built in Uzbekistan. The agreement establishes key agreements on the supply of nuclear fuel and spare parts for the RITM-200H and VVER-1000 reactor plants.
Following the event, Mr. Akhmedkhodjayev gave an interview to media representatives, noting that an unprecedented energy project will be implemented in Jizzakh region.
“We will become not only the first in the region to build a nuclear power plant, but also the first to create an innovative solution for the future. Our project is a combination of advanced low-modulus generation technologies and time-tested solutions for classic high-power nuclear power”, he said.
