Uzbekistan’s national football team has booked their place in the final of the CAFA Nations Cup with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan in the semifinals.
The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when midfielder Akmal Mozgovoy capitalized on a long pass, broke through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner, The Caspian Post informs via Uzbek media.
Kyrgyzstan's hopes took a further blow just before halftime when defender Valery Kichin received a straight red card in the 44th minute, reducing his team to ten men.
Uzbekistan took full control in the second half, ramping up the pressure and creating a flurry of dangerous chances. In the 66th minute, a foul inside the box led to a penalty, which Otabek Shukurov converted with composure to double the lead.
In the 81st minute, Igor Sergeev added a third, finishing off a precise cross from Shukurov delivered from the left wing. The scoring was completed in stoppage time, as substitute Azizbek Turgunboev found the net to seal an impressive four-goal win.
With this result, Uzbekistan topped Group A on goal difference after finishing level on seven points with Oman in the group stage. In Group B, hosted in Tajikistan, Iran claimed first place with seven points, while India edged out the host nation for second place on goal difference, with both sides collecting four points.
The final showdown of the CAFA Nations Cup will take place on September 8 in Tashkent, where Uzbekistan will face Iran. The third-place match between Oman and India is scheduled to be held the same day in Dushanbe.
