Uzbekistan and Sweden have taken a significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties by signing new agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in migration, labor mobility, and educational exchanges.
The agreements were reached during talks in Tashkent between Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Muzaffar Madrahimov and Diana Janse, Sweden's State Secretary to Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, The Caspian Post reports via UzDaily.
The discussions covered a broad range of issues, including political dialogue, trade and investment cooperation, humanitarian initiatives, education, innovation, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, industry, and agriculture.
A major focus of the meeting was migration policy and mobility opportunities. Both sides emphasized the importance of promoting safe, orderly, and legal migration while creating new pathways for labor mobility and strengthening the protection of human rights.
The officials also discussed improving consular services and expanding cooperation on initiatives that support migrants, students, and professionals seeking international opportunities.
In the economic sphere, Uzbekistan and Sweden explored measures to increase bilateral trade and encourage greater participation of Swedish companies in key sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a Comprehensive Partnership Agreement on Migration and Mobility between the two governments. The parties also adopted a Joint Declaration establishing a pilot migration and mobility program designed to facilitate legal migration and expand academic exchange opportunities.
