Uzbekistan Unveils $6 Billion Sustainable Aviation Fuel Mega-Project

Uzbekistan has signed a binding agreement to launch what is set to become Central Asia’s largest clean energy initiative, marking a major step in the region’s green industrial transformation.

The deal, concluded between Allied Biofuels FE LLC and the leadership of the Khorezm region, outlines the development of an integrated biofuel production complex that will produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), electro-synthetic aviation fuel (e-SAF), and green diesel, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Once fully operational, the facility is expected to produce around 160,400 tons of SAF, 257,000 tons of e-SAF, and 5,040 tons of green diesel annually, positioning it among the world’s most advanced large-scale biofuel hubs.

The total investment is estimated at approximately $6.08 billion over five years, making it one of the biggest clean energy infrastructure projects in the region.

The project will be powered by a 4.45 GW renewable energy system, including 2,400 MW of electrolyzers for green hydrogen production and a 1,600 MWh energy storage facility. Technology provider Plug Power will supply key electrolyzer systems.

Officials say the integrated design will enable a fully closed-loop production cycle, capturing and converting biogenic CO₂ into e-SAF while processing around 5,775 tons of agricultural feedstock daily, ensuring zero carbon emissions across operations.

The agreement was signed in Perth, Australia, on April 2, 2026, by Khorezm region governor Jurabek Rakhimov and Allied Biofuels FE LLC Chairman and Managing Director Alfred Benedict.
