Uzbekistan is working with the World Bank and UNICEF to develop an Adaptive Social Protection Strategy designed to strengthen support for households facing climate-related, natural and economic risks.

The initiative aims to help vulnerable families better withstand shocks such as natural disasters, emergencies and climate change, while improving the ability of social protection systems to deliver assistance quickly when crises occur, according to Qazinform.

Another key focus will be stronger coordination among government institutions responsible for social protection, helping ensure a faster and more effective response when households are affected by unexpected risks.

UNICEF, the World Bank and international consultants are contributing global experience and best practices to the strategy. At the same time, consultations with Uzbek institutions are intended to ensure the framework reflects the country’s specific needs and national priorities.

The next stage will include reviewing international experience, identifying the risks most relevant to Uzbekistan and developing tailored mechanisms to respond to them.
