Armenia Detains Former PM’s Son in Contract Killing Probe

Argam Abrahamyan, the son of former Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan and a former member of parliament, has been detained in connection with an alleged contract killing, Armenia’s Investigative Committee said.

Abrahamyan and the former head of the Artashat municipality are accused of organising the killing of Pastor S.V. of the “Christians of the Evangelical Faith” organisation, The Caspian Post reports, citing news.am.

Investigators said the killing took place on April 30, 2023, near a residential building on Myasnikyan Avenue in Yerevan.

Abrahamyan is also the son-in-law of businessman and opposition Prosperous Armenia party leader Gagik Tsarukyan.

According to investigators, Abrahamyan suspected that his wife was having a personal relationship with the pastor and was transferring large sums of money to him.

The Investigative Committee said investigators believe Abrahamyan sought revenge and ordered his bodyguard, identified as G.H., to carry out the killing. The bodyguard allegedly shot the pastor.
