Armenia is looking to strengthen its defence partnership with India by exploring the local production of Guided Pinaka rocket systems and 155mm artillery ammunition, according to sources familiar with the discussions.
The move would expand bilateral cooperation beyond arms purchases into joint manufacturing and defence industrial collaboration, The Caspian Post reports, citing Indian media.
Sources said talks are currently taking place with Indian defence companies regarding the possible establishment of production facilities inside Armenia. The aim is to create a more reliable wartime supply chain and reduce dependence on foreign deliveries during periods of conflict or regional instability.
The proposed industrial cooperation follows Armenia’s acquisition of India’s Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher system in 2022, making Yerevan the first international buyer of the platform. The deal, estimated to be worth around ₹2,000 crore, or approximately $265 million, included four Pinaka batteries equipped with a combination of Mk-I and Mk-I Enhanced rockets, along with options for more advanced versions.
According to the sources, deliveries of the launcher systems were completed by the end of 2024. By early 2026, Armenia had also started integrating Guided Pinaka munitions into its arsenal, representing a transition from conventional area-saturation attacks to more precise strike capabilities.
The Guided Pinaka system reportedly has a range of up to 75 kilometres and incorporates navigation and control technologies designed to improve targeting accuracy against high-value objectives. This places the system in a category similar to modern precision-guided rocket artillery used in recent military conflicts.
