Belarus Leader Slams Armenian PM Over Misleading Remarks

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has cast doubt on recent statements made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding the possibility of new gas transit routes passing through Armenia.

Commenting on the remarks, Lukashenko referred to Pashinyan’s suggestion that Armenia could benefit from future pipeline projects, receiving both gas supplies and financial gains, The Caspian Post reports via BelTA.

“I recently heard Pashinyan say: ‘Pipelines will pass through us, and we will be paid in gas. There will be plenty of gas and money.’ Well, when will that actually happen - that’s the question,” Lukashenko said.

He also questioned the practicality of the proposal and urged greater transparency with the public.

“People don’t go into the details. Where would these pipelines come from? Why is he misleading his people? What pipelines, where from, and who will provide this gas and money?” he added.

The Belarusian leader also pointed out that Armenia currently receives Russian gas at a significantly reduced price - around $150-160 per thousand cubic meters - compared to $550-650 in the European Union, arguing that this already represents a major economic advantage for the country.
