Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that the Armenian people - not the government alone - will decide whether the country’s future lies with the European Union or the Eurasian Economic Union, as the country heads toward crucial parliamentary elections in June.
Speaking during a campaign meeting with voters in the village of Garni, Pashinyan stressed that Armenians should have a real geopolitical choice between closer integration with the EU and continued membership in the Russian-led EAEU, The Caspian Post reports via TASS.
“I say that the Armenian people should have an alternative - to be part of the EAEU or the EU. It is not me who will decide,” Pashinyan said.
“The strongest will decide. And who is the strongest? The citizen of Armenia. You will decide,” he added, emphasizing that his role is to ensure citizens have alternatives and the opportunity to choose the country’s direction.
