As a sign of a notable development signaling a potential thaw in regional tensions, the aircraft of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan flew through Azerbaijani airspace during an international trip on August 30 and returned the same way on September 6.
The move was confirmed by Nazeli Baghdasaryan, spokesperson for the Armenian prime minister, who emphasized its symbolic and political significance, The Caspian Post informs via Russian media.
“Following the peace agreements reached in Washington on August 8, Armenian authorities formally requested Azerbaijan’s permission for the prime minister’s aircraft to transit its airspace. A positive response was received,” Baghdasaryan said.
She described the overflight as a concrete step toward unblocking regional transportation routes, advancing a broader peace agenda, and contributing to the creation of a climate of mutual trust between the two neighboring countries.
Baghdasaryan also highlighted the ongoing use of Armenian airspace by Azerbaijani aircraft, particularly for flights between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, suggesting a foundation for reciprocal cooperation.
