The Middle Corridor is rapidly strengthening its position as a major trade route linking Asia and Europe through Central Asia, the Caspian Sea and the South Caucasus, with Azerbaijan playing a central role in the expanding multimodal network.

The route brings together railways, ports and other transport infrastructure, creating an increasingly important connection between Asian and European markets, according to Euronews.

Speaking on the Business Horizons program, Emil Mammadov, adviser to the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), said growing international demand is transforming the Middle Corridor into an increasingly important trade route.

As the corridor expands, digital technologies are also becoming more important. Mammadov highlighted their role in cargo tracking and improving coordination across the different parts of the transport network.

The growing importance of the route is reflected in activity at the Port of Baku. Cargo transshipment volumes there increased by 40% in 2025, highlighting the rising role of Azerbaijan as a key logistics hub between East and West.
