During the 16th Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, candidate countries were nominated for the presidency and four vice-presidential positions for the Assembly’s 17th session.
In line with the principles of geographical representation and rotation, the Republic of Korea’s candidacy was approved for the presidency of the Assembly’s 17th session, representing the Asia and Pacific regional group, The Caspian Post reports, citing Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry.
The Assembly’s vice-presidents are selected from one member country representing each of the remaining four regional groups.
Nominations for these positions include Azerbaijan from the Europe and Others group, the Comoros from the African group, the Kingdom of Tonga from the Asia and Pacific group, and Grenada from the Latin America and Caribbean group.
The 17th session of the IRENA Assembly is scheduled to be held in 2027.
