Azerbaijan Railways: 1,000 Tons of Kazakh Wheat En Route to Armenia

Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, Head of the Public Relations Department at Azerbaijan Railways company (ADY), has said that a freight train carrying around 1,000 tons of Kazakh wheat is traveling to Armenia through Azerbaijan, marking another milestone in the reopening of regional transit routes.

He noted that the shipment is part of a growing transit flow between regional countries, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

“As President Ilham Aliyev announced during his state visit to Kazakhstan on October 21, Azerbaijan has lifted all restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia that had been in place since the occupation period. Cargo shipments are now moving to Armenia via Azerbaijan,” Hajiyev said.

Just recently, 15 wagons of Russian wheat, weighing a total of 1,048.8 tons, were sent from Russia to Armenia through Azerbaijan’s Boyuk-Kasik station, en route via Georgia.

Following that, Kazakh wheat shipments began taking the same route. On November 5, 15 wagons carrying nearly 1,000 tons of wheat from Kazakhstan arrived in Azerbaijan and are currently at Bilajari Station near Baku. The train will proceed along the Bilajari-Hajigabul-Boyuk-Kasik route before continuing toward Armenia.

Further cargo deliveries from Russia and Kazakhstan are expected to follow the same transit corridor through Azerbaijan in the coming weeks, strengthening regional trade links and showcasing a new phase of economic connectivity in the South Caucasus.
