China to Unveil National Urban Development Report at WUF13 in Azerbaijan

China is set to present its national urban development report during the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan, offering a detailed look at the country’s ambitious strategy for building smart, sustainable, and people-centered cities.

Speaking at a ministerial roundtable on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, representative of China’s Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Shengjun Wang, said Beijing has completed a comprehensive assessment of its urban modernization efforts and will share the findings during the global forum, The Caspian Post reports.

Wang said that China had analyzed the implementation of the New Urban Development Agenda and prepared a national report to be presented at WUF13.

The Chinese official said that housing remains the foundation of the country’s urban strategy. China is focusing on developing high-quality housing, modern residential districts, upgraded neighborhoods, and sustainable urban zones as part of its long-term modernization vision.

Wang stated that China was committed to creating innovative, livable, beautiful, resilient, civilized, and smart modernized cities for its people, describing it as the country’s unique path toward urban modernization.

He emphasized that China follows strict standards in urban construction, prioritizing high-quality design, eco-friendly materials, smart technologies, and efficient maintenance to build safe and comfortable homes. China is also accelerating the renovation of aging urban neighborhoods, transforming older residential districts into modern communities equipped with essential infrastructure and public services.

Wang noted that the country is placing particular emphasis on multifunctional neighborhoods designed to support safe, healthy, and efficiently managed communities, while urban renewal has become a key tool in creating vibrant and dynamic cities. As the world’s second-largest economy with a population of 1.4 billion people, China says it has made major progress toward achieving housing access for all citizens.

Wang said that cities were essential infrastructure for urbanization and stressed that the future of the world’s cities required global cooperation, calling for stronger international collaboration on sustainable urban development.
