Digital Upgrade Completed on Azerbaijan–Georgia Rail Corridor Section

The digitalization of a key section of the railway corridor between Azerbaijan and Georgia has been completed, allowing for an increase in train speeds

The modernization work was carried out by a Russian company on the Baku-Boyuk Kesik line. As a result, the maximum speed for passenger trains will increase from 100 km/h to 140 km/h, while freight trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h, up from the previous 80 km/h, The Caspian Post reports citing local media.

In the future, train intervals on this route are expected to decrease from 20 minutes to just 8 minutes.

The upgrades were implemented on the Ujar-Hajigabul section, where outdated relay systems were replaced with advanced digital automation. With the new system, station dispatchers will be able to remotely control switches and signals via computer, set routes, monitor equipment parameters, and detect early signs of potential failures.

The new digital system will manage operations across six stations, 19 railway crossings, and more than 120 track switches.
