The long-awaited process of returning residents to the Azerbaijani once-war-torn city of Aghdam is slated to begin this fall, with ongoing restoration efforts progressing at full speed.
Emin Huseynov, the special representative of the president for the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts, confirmed the news to journalists during a visit to the city, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
Huseynov detailed that large-scale infrastructure projects are currently in full swing, ensuring that the city’s revitalization moves forward at an accelerated pace. These projects include the restoration of vital roads, utilities, and public services to accommodate returning families and businesses.
"In the coming months, we will begin the first phase of resettlement," Huseynov stated. "By the end of next year, the historical cultural core of Aghdam will be fully restored and prepared for the population to return and resume their lives."
Aghdam, which had been heavily damaged during the Karabakh conflict, is set to see a revival as a new chapter begins for its residents. The first wave of returnees will benefit from the ongoing rebuilding efforts, which have prioritized essential infrastructure and the restoration of historic landmarks.
