Putin Sending Delegation to Baku to Mend Ties with Azerbaijan

In a bid to defuse rising tensions with Azerbaijan, Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly dispatching an unofficial delegation to Baku next week.

The move is seen as part of Moscow’s quiet diplomatic efforts to repair strained relations with a key strategic partner in the South Caucasus, The Caspian Post reports via Russia’s VCHK-OGPU Telegram channel.

The delegation is expected to deliver a personal message from Putin and may propose a mutual exchange of detainees as a gesture toward reconciliation.

The group may be led by Alexander Kurenkov, Russia’s Minister of Emergency Situations and former personal aide to President Putin. Kurenkov reportedly maintains strong personal ties with key figures in the Azerbaijani government.

“Worsening relations with Azerbaijan are not part of the Kremlin’s current plans. Moscow cannot afford conflict on multiple fronts or the loss of a strategic partner in such a critical region,” the message said.
