Two Azerbaijani Wrestlers Reach Finals at U-23 World Wrestling Championship in Serbia

Two Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers have advanced to the finals of the U-23 World Wrestling Championship currently underway in Novi Sad, Serbia.

The freestyle events began on October 25, featuring athletes in the 57 kg, 70 kg, 79 kg, and 125 kg weight categories, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

In the 57 kg division, Muhammadali Alizade suffered a 0:10 defeat against Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Jumanazarov.

In the 70 kg category, Kanan Heybatov delivered an impressive performance, defeating Canada’s Cole Coghill (10:0), Belgium’s Muhammad Abdurachmanov (10:0), Armenia’s Davit Margaryan (by fall), and US Peter Duke (14:4) to reach the final. He will compete against Iran’s Sina Khalili for the gold medal.

In the 79 kg category, Farid Jabbarov won against Switzerland’s Umar Mavlaev (3:1) but was knocked out in the round of 16 by Kazakhstan’s Yerkhan Abil (0:5).

Meanwhile, in the 125 kg category, Khetag Karsanov dominated the mat, securing wins over Belarus’ Pavel Dziatlau (12:2), Egypt’s Abdelrahman Sheyatan (11:0), and Türkiye’s Hakan Büyükçıngıl (7:5). In the semifinal, he overpowered US Daniel Herrera (12:2) to reach the final, where he will face Iran’s Abolfazl Nejad.

The final bouts will take place on October 26.
